Fourth Elm Safety Manager

The Safety Manager will plan, implement and supervise project safety, accidents, and fire protection programs in compliance with corporate safety program standards.  He/She will also maintain vehicle, tool, equipment and signage inventory for company.

Roles & Responsibilities May Include:

Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.

Inspect near miss incidents and provide lessons learned and or training to prevent reoccurrences of the incident.

Plans and implements safety and compliance training programs.

Handles worker’s compensation claims in case of an employee injury and maintain OSHA 300 logs.

Plan, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive environmental safety and health programs on premises or at project site locations.

Monitors subcontractor’s safety performance for compliance with company safety policies and acts as a resource to assist contractors and employees in providing a safe and healthful working environment.

Provides project management team with guidance on health and safety and confirm project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations.

Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management.

Maintains a written log of safety inspections activities, reports, and correspondence.

Provides safety technical support to estimators and project managers.

Participates in team meetings and provides regular on-site project presence.

Coordinate literature/handouts for superintendents to perform weekly toolbox safety meetings at the job sites. Monitor and verify meeting and verify records are being kept of the attendees.

Accompany all safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walk-through tours. Coordinate and assist in preparing written reports for safety, legal and insurance purposes.

Responsible for maintenance and accounting of all company owned tools and equipment. Documentation and location of all tools, equipment and storage units, including long-term rental contracts for certain tools.

Responsible for new on-site employee orientation.

Responsible for documenting final punch list items on projects. Documenting warranty issues and warranty follow up 30 days, 6 months and one year.

Essential to offer effective levels of customer service to create client satisfaction.

Contributes to the efficient day-to-day operation of Fourth Elm Construction and supports the work of management and other staff.

Safety is the responsibility of each and every employee.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

      High School Diploma or equivalent.

      Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Engineering or related disciple (preferred but not required)

      Minimum of 5 years experience in the commercial construction environment

     At least 3 years of management level professional safety experience

     Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company regulations

     Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measure immediately.

Strong verbal and written communication skills:

     Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business forms, journals, technical drawings and governmental regulations.

     Familiarity with project and department budget processes and tools.

     Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

     Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and the general public.

Safety Ability:

     Ability to understand project plans and specification as related to safety.

     Ability to determine potential safety issues by reviewing project plans and specifications prior to construction activities.

Reasoning Ability:

     Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

     Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Strong negotiation skills to resolve field issues and conflict management.

Strong decision-making ability.

Demonstrated leadership ability.

Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, standards, best practices and performance standards.

Computer Skills:

     Experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Physical Demands

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

Needs to be able to move about inside an office facility and job site location.

Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder at a job site of office.

Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.

Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.

Exposure to outdoor weather elements.
